I think this is the female because there is no red on the head, it is a bit more skiddish too because I had a hard time getting a picture and this was the best one I could get

Every morning this guy comes to my feeder which makes me very happy after I listened to him all summer at that tree with the holes in it. There is another woodpecker that comes too that is bigger than this one but the same color so I am not sure why the difference in size since they look exactly the same otherwise. Maybe someone can explain this riddle to me
