This is for you Cheryl, you share my frustration

It's hard to see but it was a pack of bikers, a normal 5 minute drive took me 20, they had a bike race in town today, UGH, don't you think they could let us know before hand so we don't get caught in the middle of this???

:) !!!

You would think that there would be prior notification, so you could plan accordingly. Every town person I've talked to resents this hijack of our roads...the very least they could do is let you know when it's happening so you don't find yourself stuck in the middle of the race with scowling bikers all around.

Arrgh!

Madeleine there must have been over 100 bikers in our town of less than 2000. I also got stuck riding my motorcycle later in the day over to see Cheryl at the Blueberry Picnic. It turned out to be good practice to me driving slow and starting from a dead stop on a hill since I am kind of a new motorcycle rider.... ok well I have had my license and motorcycle since 2003 but who's counting???

WOW!!!! 100?! That's really weird.
They must have been like practicing for the Olympics or something.....Well, proboly not the OLYMPICS, but maybe for a race or just doing it or they are doing the race...

We'll have to build a super sized soap box for all us "townies" to stand upon to protest the rudeness of these cycling groups. I watched a support vehicle come within inches of running over a cyclist at the intersection in the center of town. It is rediculous how when they direct traffic at intersections, they yell at you for not moving fast enough when they wave you through.
OK, I'm stepping down...next.

Back in my "Galveston era", the city hosted many different events every year. Because these functions brought in so much $$ to the local merchants, the city always went out of its way to communicate to the locals about the dates, expected time spans, routes, alternate traffic routes, parking areas, how the event fit into the particular sporting schedule, etc.
This helped to soothe ruffled feathers in the community. Also there were side events for the locals to participate in in conjunction with whatever event was going on.

Of course, Galveston had a lot more side streets to route traffic on as compared to your rural setting ....
