A stroll through the garden....and what do I see?????

Mr Bear looking back at me!!!!! My heart must have been beating a million times. I was just wandering around the yard and I looked up and there he was walking right past the front door.. I ran to the house, he turned around, I said Ut Oh and then he kept on going, I grabbed my camera and this was the best I could get with my shaky hands!!

Wow that is a big bear! And no tags, I wonder if he's the guy from over here that wandered over there...you be careful as that bear is mighty big, and getting really acclimated to people. Meaning you could come downstairs one morning & he'll be in your garage.

Great pictures!!!

OMG, Kristen!!!! What a scare! You were so fortunate to have an open path to the house. What door did you head for if it was at the front door?

Thank goodness it didn't seem to be hunting but it obviously had no fear of you!!

Do bears go after cats? Have you let every one in the neighborhood know bout it????

You did fantastic about being quick thinking enough - despite your shakes - to get the pictures - they are good.

Please you guys be alert from now on - get some motion sensors up outside your house ....

Biddie, I was up by the road on my mom's side of our yard, its actually our front door, it must have walked right past me while I was poking around in my garden, I looked up and saw him so I kicked off my flip flops and ran to the house, he stopped and turned around, he could sense me moving, because I didn't make a sound. I ran up stairs to get my camera, I was really shaking by this point, ran out the back door which is the deck side near the garage, couldn't see him so I thought he went into the garage since the garbage is in there, I went back out the front door and peeked around the corner and I saw him at the neighbors house, this is where I got the pictures.
My mom has seen a bear wandering around a lot so I have a feeling it is the same one, he knew exactly where he was going, he even walked down the neighbors stairs

Hi Madeleine, you described it perfect, it was really cool but boy was I scared. I don't know if cats would be dinner, but I think mine are such home bodies they don't go too far out of the yard. This bear was just on his normal walk around the neighborhood

It's hard to tell if he is your same bear cheryl, how big do you think yours was and do you think it is the same size as this one? I wonder what they weigh

Had to check your bear out again...
In the future be careful about running away from him, it can trigger the predatory instinct and bears can outrun you.
Isn't it scary when you get that close? I haven't seen any over here lately, but I'm not complaining!

I keep looking too and thought I just had a dream last night, when he stopped and turned around to look at me, I stopped in my place until he started walking away again, I had slid off my flip flops to I could run to the house faster and not trip, which is probably what would have happened, what a scary movie moment that would have been!!!

Make sure there is no cat food around to attract him, they have an extraordinary sense of smell. Unfortunately that bear will probably end up hurting someone or being hurt, he's way too comfortable around people.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same bear from over here, I haven't noticed as many people's garbage cans knocked over as I used to, and I think bears will roam over a large area too.

It's amazing how quiet they are isn't it? The times I've come close to them here in the yard I had no idea they were next to me until I saw them.

I keep thinking about you - that bear must have a sleeping place somewhere near you in that area. It's a hassle but keep your garage door closed ...

There's a national forest to the east of me here that has bears in it. Every once in a while a bear will wander out of the perserve and into a neighborhood. The wildlife dept. darts them and takes them back. One time a bear came thru this area, moving northwestward - it was seen a couple of times along its route. I think that I might have startled it one evening when I walked over to the old cottage to check on the tropicals. I didn't see it but there was such a ruckus and scrambling sounds down in the creek bed right next to the cottage that it could only have been a bear getting tangled up in some fallen dead trees there. Scary - I don't go back over there after dark now ...

HOLY MOLY!!! That bear is HUGE!! I can't believe a bear was strolling around where people garden, and children ride their bikes. It seems surreal.

What do you do when a bear goes through your yard? Do you call animal control?

If it were here, there would be helicopters, news crews, freeways would be shutdown, and the bear would be featured on "Access Hollywood". (odd, but true) :o)

Thanks!!! I would not want....that.....walking around!!! If I can't even stand a bee buzzing within five feet of me, imagine what I would do with a bear..

Hey Denise,
We don't call animal control where we live because the bears in our town came from another area of CT that they dumped off up in our town because we have a lot of woodland and less population. No one really seems to mind them unless they get into your garbage or eat your pets (I have not heard of this happening with bears) We all just take in our bird feeders and keep our garage doors shut.
He didn't seem to care that I was there and he was so quiet

We all know if a bear has been a nuisance too because they have tags in the ears, sometimes both ears, the tags mean something to the game warden, where they came from , when tagged, etc. this particular bear had NO tags so he/she has not been causing trouble

Wow, that's amazing. It sounds like, "if you don't bother them, they won't bother you."

I can just see myself gardening and a bear tapping me on the shoulder! :o)

Wow, what a scary experience. You were very smart to take off your shoes. I think they should transport that bear! What if he came near children!
