Hi and good morning!!
Because of the somewhat flattened and elongated shell and the shape of the head, it might be a snapping turtle. But it doesn't have the usual algae and gunk on its shell.
If it is a snapper, don't let your kitty play with it, they are fairly agressive and can deliver bad bites!!
Ew, it has a lizard tail......ew!!! Cool and gross!!!
No clue what it is, it's a lizard-turtle thing.... a lurtle!!!!!
I was thinking a snapper as well, although the beak doesn't look as hooked as others I've seen, and the shell seems less bumpy...but the tail sure looks like a snapper's! Was it aggressive?
Ray thinks it is a wood turtle, I have never heard of and when I looked it up, did not look like mine, this one didn't seem to bother with both cats or me so I don't think it is a snapper either. Maureen....... do you have an idea???
I'm guessing snapping turtle, too.
I looked up pictures of snappers, I'm pretty sure that's what your visitor is. A young one judging by it's size. I've had a few in my yard, one was a huge female that was digging out a nest to lay eggs. I caught her in a dog crate & moved her down to the swamp. She was not happy & I had a heck of a time getting her in the crate. She stunk so bad, I got a case of the heaves from it!
You are probably right all guessing Snapper. it just didn't seem to be bothered by me or the cats, I thought they hissed and opened thier mouths, he did have a long neck when I saw him later stretching it out as if he was smelling his way somewhere
I suppose that like other critters some snappers might have a more mellow disposition than others...every snapper I've come across has been pretty darn ornery.
Oohhh!!! Ooohh!!! I know what it is!!!! It's an.................
EW!!!!!!!! It's an Ew!!! It's called an Ew because it is gross!!!
