I bet it would sure love to find a little bit of cat food left out for him on the deck in an old pie pan ....

I bet he would really like that too, maybe not on my deck!! I would end up with a couple hundred of them if I left food out side. What about my cats? I am afraid they will get into a fight if they run into each other

You know, I've wondered the same thing. We have a little raccoon family here, and a regular opossum buddy. I've never heard Whiskers get into it with any of them. No growling, hissing, or anything

I don't think you need to worry about that. For all the years that I've fed raccoons, there has never been any problem. The cats seem to know to back off and just watch the 'coons. The most that have been at the "nightly buffet" was 4 at any one time - usually it was only 1 or 2.

I wish we had raccoons. Instead we have Possums.....

Do not leave cat food out for him, at least not yet. You have Mr. Bear wandering around over there who will be more than happy to come visit your buffet. That coon looks pretty healthy & of good weight so he's eating somewhere.
I've been hearing the coyotes over here a lot lately, sometimes so close that I've brought the dogs in just to be safe.

Yes I live in too close of a neighborhood to have a feeding frenzy of Racoon's, me neighbors wouldn't like me, they already didn't like the bird feeder in the spring, bears came a sniffing.

Cheryl ray said he heard some howling over this way at night too

E-gads! I forgot about the bears!! Sorry, Sorry!!! DO NOT FEED THE RACCOONS!!

I never had to deal with coyotes or bears wandering around so I could enjoy the visits of the raccoons, possums and birds without a thought about any such problems -- again, sorry about the suggestion.

Just a little note for Ms. Biddie - you've got quite a population of the Florida black bear in your parts, although they generally stick around all the state lands down there. It seems that up here people in politics aren't really getting that concept about preservation of habitat.

It's alright Biddie, we live in different parts, you have SNAKES!!!

Maureen - you are right about bears to the east of me - they are in the State Park over there and occasionally wander into people's yards over there.

There's none in my immediate area - however, a couple of years ago, one bear did come thru on his way to an area NW of me - it was sighted several times and I'm sure that I startled it one night over at Possum Hollow - it boogied into the night when I went to the old cottage to close up the greenhouse - I didn't see it but I sure heard it crashing thru the underbrush. The next day I could see where it had gone thru some brush and could sort of make out what looked like a couple of prints in the ground by the creek.

Always wondered what made the bear head out on a Marco Polo type adventure into unknown territory by himself like that ....
