Punch Rug vs. Rug Hook

The left side is a punch rug and the right is a rug hook.  This is the finished side, so for rug hook, you are working on this side, pulling the wool from the back with a hook
When rug punching, you work on this side, punching the yarn through to the other side with a giant needle type tool, so when you are done, you flip over to see your work.  I should have taken a picture of the tools but I forgot.... next time

Good Morning! Thanks for the side-by-side pictures. While I understand your descriptions of the differences, I can't really see a difference between the two different methods - I guess you have to actually work with them to be able to spot the differences.

Do you tie-off the pieces of yarn somehow -or- do they stay in place just because they are squeezed in so tight?

Thanks again for taking the pictures - I'm amazed at how much hand-work you do - for as fast as you work, your work is really neat and tidy looking - no rough, uneven places.

Thanks Biddie
Now that I have put them side by side, there isn't much difference.

I think punching is easier but I have done that a lot longer than hooking. The yarn in punching you don't cut until you are done with a certain color, hooking wool is in shorter strips and you have to keep grabbing pieces.

There isn't anything to tie off either. it just stays in place. Good and bad sometimes, if you make a mistake you can just pull it out and start over, but it can get pulled out by mistake too, easy enough to fix but a pain in the arse!
