Hi there -- The sunflower plants do seem to be behind the usual growth pattern for sunflowers - could the seeds have been defective or maybe too old?
They might just be a smaller variety, and I betcha you have some happy chippies & squirrels lurking about.
I bought food for the squirrels and the red squirrels this year, peanuts and corn and seeds so I wonder why they would be digging up the ones I planted? I think they were just too shaded by the rest of the stuff in my garden and these few that made it were stronger than the others.
