This was one of the most popular things in my craft show. Wine bottles that I painted on, didn't cost me anything (well it did but the used bottle gets recycled or thrown out) except my time of cleaning off the labels and painting on it. I sold 4 of them yesterday.

I had to chuckle about you using old wine bottles for projects.
For years, when I was living over in TX, I saved my wine bottles. I intended to eventually cut the bottoms off and use them in stain glass projects. Over the many years that I saved them, I sort of filled most of the floor of a spare bedroom up with them.
After I retired and was packing up to move over here to Possum Hollow, I just couldn't justify moving all those bottles!! I had to make 2 trips to the recycle center to get rid of them all - it was embarrassing - the recycle workers had a field day teasing me about my apparent drinking habits ....
You made me laugh too, it seems like before you know it there are 20 of them hanging around, I had some friends give me some because I usually don't drink that much wine at home, and I wanted to paint a whole bunch, I have 10 spray painted so far to get ready for my next craft fair, lets hope I sell them all this time.
Good luck - that's a good looking idea. If you got a little bottle cutter (they are about $8 - $10 on eBay), you could cut the tops off and put a little tea candle in them after painting them - they would glow really nicely thru the glass and paint.
P.S. I discovered that most wine bottles have a cheater bump in the bottom (I call it this because you don't get as much wine as it seems). You'd have to come up with some little "stand" to balance the tea candle without transmitting the heat which could shatter the glass .......
Yeah I try to buy the kind without that "bump" that is thier convenience way of ripping us off an ounce or two isn't it. The one on the table I took picture of doesn't have a bump but now that I painted it, I couldn't tell you what kind it was, well I wash the labels off any how.
